Demand Response
Demand Response –- 3 Ways to Get Funding!
Demand Response is any action taken in response to an emergency signal that temporarily limits electric demand. Demand Response is a great way to guard New Yorkers against grid events, reduce dependence on oil, lower peak electric prices, and increase revenue.
Those wishing to participate in Demand Response must register in the mandatory NYISO ICAP/SCR program, a program run by the group that administers the markets for electricity in New York and maintains grid reliability. The NYISO will pay you for your commitment to reduce load, regardless of the number of events that are called, as well as for the energy you actually save during events. In the past three years, signals to curtail were given from 2 to 10 times annually. Curtailment of electric load was required for 2 to 35 hours total each year.
NYSERDA will help pay for the initial capital costs required to prepare your building or campus for Demand Response, based on the kW you register with the NYSIO. We can also help you find contractors to enroll in the NYISO program.
