Allied Converters is an assembly and warehousing facility that is undergoing
renovation.
This project will install and operate a combined heat and power (CHP)
system using microturbine technology consisting of two 30kW gas-fired
units to generate electricity. The waste heat will be sent to a heat exchanger
for recovery, or to an absorption chiller to generate cooling, depending
on the seasonal conditions. Technology transfer will include presenting
the energy, environmental, and economic data at the company website. Tours
will be arranged to demonstrate the features of the CHP system.
This project will reduce annual electricity use by 130,000 kW, and also
because of its metropolitan area location, reduce peak load demand in
a constructed zone. Up to 68% of the exhaust heat will be beneficially
recovered to produce energy, resulting in an annual energy savings of
$16,400.
NYSERDA has co-funded this project to cover the cost for labor, equipment,
and testing.
BENEFITS INCLUDE:
Reduction in electric demand;
Reduction in energy cost;
Capture and beneficial use of waste heat.
RESULTS TO DATE:
Project has been designed;
Equipment is installed.
