Below is a list of products not covered by the Energy-Efficient Equipment Standards for State Purchasing, but offer the opportunity to go beyond State Purchasing Standards. 

Commercial Food Service

Commercial Fryers:

ENERGY STAR qualified fryers include both gas and electric open-deep fat models. Fryers that earn the ENERGY STAR must meet a minimum cooking efficiency* of 50% (gas) and 80% (electric) while also meeting a maximum idle energy rate of 9,000 Btu/hr (gas) and 1,000 watts (electric).

Hot Food Holding Cabinets:

Hot food holding cabinet models that earn the ENERGY STAR must meet a maximum idle energy rate of 40 watts/ft3. The maximum idle energy rate is based on the “idle energy rate-dry test” in ASTM F2140-01.

Steam Cookers:

ENERGY STAR qualified steam cookers include both electric and gas models. Steam cookers that earn the ENERGY STAR must meet a minimum cooking efficiency* of 50 percent (electric) and 38 percent (gas) while also meeting maximum idle energy rates. Idle energy rates are given for 3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-pan sizes.

Beverage Vending Machines

Beverage vending machines are a self-contained system designed to accept consumer payments and dispense bottled, canned, and other sealed beverages at appropriate temperatures without on-site labor intervention. Water Coolers: 

The Energy Star qualified water coolers must either use less than 0.16 kW-hours/day  for water coolers that provide cold only and cook and cold bottled units (these units dispense either cold water only, and/or both cold and room-temperature water), while  hot and cold bottled units (these units dispense both hot and cold water. Some units may have a third room-temperature tap. Consumer Electronics

Televisions (TVs) and Videocassette Recorders (VCRs): 

Energy Star requires TVs with Point of Deployment (POD) slots to consume three watts or less when no POD is installed, and to consume 15 watts or less when a POD is installed.  For analog TV monitors, televisions, digital TV monitors, component TV units, VCRs , TV/VCR combination units, TV/DVD combination units, VCR/DVD combination units, and TV/VCR/DVD combination units will consume one watt or less when switched off (units with illuminated or backlit displays or other electronic status indicators may add an additional one watt to the existing one watt specification).  A link to Energy Star program product definitions and energy efficiency specifications can be found here:  Energy Star TVs and VCRs

External Power Adapters:  

External power adapters, also known as power supplies or battery chargers, convert high voltage ac electricity from the wall outlet to the low voltage dc power used to power electronic products, like MP3 players, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), camcorders, digital cameras, laptops, and cordless and mobile phones.  Energy Star qualifying external power adapters must meet must meet both active and no-load mode requirements, which can be found here:  Energy Star External Power Adaptors Key Product Criteria.
