Course Overview

Maintaining the building envelope is essential to ensure a comfortable environment for the building's occupants. A proper inspection program is an important aspect of maintenance; it can identify problems before they impact energy use and affect occupants' health. Leaky roofs are often a primary concern, but a school building's maintenance program should cover all components of the building, including exterior walls, windows and doors, and building foundation. Effective building maintenance requires regular inspections, cleaning, and detection of problems such as water penetration, structural damage, or insect infestation. This course addresses preventive maintenance for the exterior of the building.
