High performance schools use a whole building, integrated design strategy where each of the building elements (windows, walls, building materials, HVAC, landscaping, etc.) is considered part of an integrated system of interacting components. Choices in one area often affect other building systems. Integrated design leverages these interactions to maximize the overall building performance.
The integrated, "whole building" approach to design is the cornerstone of any high performance building. For this reason, it is recommended that A/E firms complete the full 25-course curriculum. For convenience, each course is designed as a stand-alone module, and users may receive one (1) Learning Unit for each successfully completed course.
