Classrooms and other school spaces must be ventilated to remove carbon dioxide and other pollutants that collect due to occupant breathing, odors, and other sources. In many climates, natural ventilation is an energy efficient method of providing at least a portion of the ventilation needed to cool school spaces and maintain indoor air quality. Historically, schools have not been air conditioned at all, and natural ventilation has been the only means of cooling. Today, a variety of technologies and systems are available to create a ventilation system that works efficiently and effectively.
This course presents an overview of ways to provide both natural and mechanical ventilation. The course is worth one hour of continuing education credit in the area of Health, Safety, Welfare.
