Electric lighting is one of the major energy consumers in schools. Designing for less electric lighting reduces energy use and heat gain, which saves air conditioning energy and improves thermal comfort. Efficient electric lighting design also strongly affects visual comfort by maintaining adequate, appropriate illumination while controlling reflectance and glare.
This course provides an overview of the principles of lighting design and the benefits of effective lighting. The course is worth one hour of continuing education credit in the area of Health, Safety, Welfare.
