Logo for Energy Smart Schools EnergySmart Schools -- America's schools spend more than $6 billion each year on energy. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) estimates they could save 25 percent of that money-1.5 billion nationally-through better building design, widely available energy-efficient and renewable energy technologies, and improvements to operations and maintenance.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) launched the EnergySmart Schools in 1998 in an effort to assist the nation's K-12 schools in meeting the considerable energy challenges they faced. EnergySmart Schools helps K-12 schools develop energy education programs and save energy and dollars through energy efficiency. It is part of Rebuild America, a DOE program that focuses on improving communities nationwide through energy efficiency.

Logo for NASEO National Association of State Energy Officials -- For more than a decade, the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) has provided leadership on these issues as energy's Washington voice - guiding regional, state and federal government officials toward a deeper understanding of energy's pivotal role in the economy and environment, and informing them about the specific energy priorities and concerns of the states and territories.

Affiliated with the National Governors' Association, NASEO members are officials from the State and Territory Energy Offices and affiliates from the private and public sectors. The nonprofit association was created by the governors as an "instrumentality of the states" to improve the effectiveness and quality of state energy programs and policies, and to be a collector and repository of energy-related information. NASEO meetings and communications offer a forum for energy officials, policymakers and others to exchange information and discuss issues with regional and national implications.

Logo for ASERTTI Association of State Energy Research & Technology Transfer Institutions -- ASERTTI was established in 1990 by state and regional organizations with energy research, development and technology transfer responsibilities.

ASERTTI members have a demonstrated track record of supporting high-impact research and development programs and applying the resulting new technologies in cooperation with utilities and other private and public organizations in their states.

ASERTTI members, managing more than $1 billion in energy RDD&D (research, development, demonstration, and deployment) activities annually, are major contributors to our nationwide energy research capabilities.

NYSERDA administers the New York Energy $martSM program, which is designed to support certain public benefit programs during the transition to a more competitive electricity market. Some 2,700 projects in more than 30 programs are funded by a charge on the electricity transmitted and distributed by the State's investor-owned utilities. The New York Energy $martSM program provides energy efficiency services, including those directed at the low-income sector, research and development, and environmental protection activities.

Logo for Sustainable Buildings Industry Council Sustainable Buildings Industry Council -- The Sustainable Buildings Industry Council (SBIC) was founded in 1980 to advance the design, affordability, energy performance, and environmental soundness of America's buildings and continues to promote a "whole building" approach to help owners and designers achieve high performance buildings. In 1999, SBIC recognized the enormous opportunity that K-12 school construction and renovation represented and launched a nationwide initiative to train school districts and their facility designers about the characteristics and benefits of high performance design. As part of this process, SBIC created the High Performance School Buildings Resource and Strategy Guide and has used this tool as the basis for training workshops conducted across the country. As contractor to NYSERDA, SBIC coordinated the work of the Development Team and currently hosts the site.

Logo for NJIT Center for Architecture and Building Science Research -- The Center for Architecture and Building Science Research (CABSR) at NJIT was established in 1988 and is located at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. It is affiliated with the New Jersey School of Architecture at NJIT. CABSR's mission is to create new knowledge that will help individuals and communities make better-informed decisions concerning the built environment. The Center engages in a comprehensive program of applied research focused on the built environment and the institutions, policies, technologies and trends that shape it. A key goal is to generate practical research results that provide tangible benefits to individuals and to society as a whole. CABSR's current research programs focus in five key areas: developmental disabilities planning; educational facilities; health care and aging environments; historic preservation; and housing and community development. In the area of educational facilities, CABSR recently established the New Jersey High Performance Schools Information Center. As contractor to NYSERDA, the Center acted as content coordinator for the project.

NJIT's rankings place the university among the leaders in education, research, diversity and cost-effectiveness.
