NYSERDA and Allied Frozen Food Storage, Inc.
Team Up to Build Highly Efficient Facility in Brockport
Brockport, NY The New York State Energy Research and Development
Authority (NYSERDA) is providing $180,000 to Allied Frozen Food Storage,
Inc. for the design and installation of energy-efficient measures
into its new facility. Through the New York Energy $mart New Construction
Program, Allied Frozen Food Storage was able to build an environmentally
responsible frozen storage facility that uses the latest and most
energy-efficient refrigeration equipment.
"Allied Frozen Storage should be commended for implementing
energy efficiency improvements," said NYSERDA President William
M. Flynn. "NYSERDA's New Construction Program provides technical
assistance to evaluate and design energy-efficiency options; cash
back for installation of cost-effective electric efficiency measures
in new or renovated buildings; and additional incentives for green
buildings and solar technologies. I would encourage other businesses
to follow in the footsteps of Allied Frozen Storage and review the
many opportunities we offer at NYSERDA."
Allied Frozen Storage, Inc., a third party warehousing and logistics
company, received a financial incentive from NYSERDA for energy saving
equipment that is considered a step above the customary equipment
for a facility of this type. The equipment that was installed includes
high speed freezer doors, a variable speed on the evaporative condenser,
a state-of-the-art computer control system with automatic load shedding,
evaporator penthouses, liquid recirculator, and an automatic condensable
gas purger. It is estimated this equipment will save Allied Frozen
Storage, Inc., over $66,000 in annual energy costs. Under contract
to NYSERDA, Wendel Duchscherer and Erdman-Anthony and Associates,
Inc. provided technical assistance for this project.
"I would like to thank the NYSERDA's consultants at Erdman-Anthony
and Wendel Duchscherer who worked with us on this project, and our
contractors who went the extra mile with us to provide the necessary
documentation," said James Mills, director of corporate engineering
and safety for Allied Frozen Storage. "I would also like to thank
NYSERDA, as some of this equipment could not have been purchased and
installed without the incentive we are receiving."
Allied Frozen Storage, Inc., a division of The Allied Group, employs
75 individuals. It operates over 25 million cubic feet of frozen,
chilled, and dry warehouse space. Allied Frozen Storage, Inc., distributes
customers products to all major markets throughout the Northeasters
United State and Southern Ontario.
Funding for this project comes from the New York Energy SmartSM
program, designed to lower electricity costs by encouraging energy
efficiency, are available to businesses, state and local governments,
not-for-profits and private institutions, public and private schools,
colleges and universities, multifamily buildings, and health care
facilities that are electric distribution customers of Rochester Gas
and Electric, Central Hudson, Con Edison, NYSEG, Orange and Rockland,
or Niagara Mohawk. All New York Energy Smart programs are funded by
a System Benefits Charge (SBC) paid by the customers of these utility
companies.
Since 1998, NYSERDA has provided more than $7 million to support
more than 181 projects in Monroe County. Combined with co-funding
from NYSERDA's partners, the value of these projects is nearly $13
million. Among some of the other customers NYSERDA is working with
in Monroe County is: Rochester Institute of Technology, Mikron Corporation
Rochester, Zweigles Inc., YMCA of Rochester, Siemens Building Technologies,
and the University of Rochester Medical Center.
