Demonstration Nears Completion

ALBANY, NY The New York State Energy Research and Development
Authority (NYSERDA) announced today that 20 Plug Power Inc. (NASDAQ:
PLUG) fuel cell systems are currently providing electricity to a variety
of New York State facilities in the final phase of a two-year demonstration
program.
The $6 million program is funded by Governor Pataki's Clean Water/Clean
Air Bond Act and managed by NYSERDA for the New York State Department
of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). Final installation of an additional
21 systems is scheduled to be completed by year-end. Over the three-phase
program, 80 units will have been installed.
"This program has fostered the rapid evolution from laboratory
to full demonstration and operation of some very complex technology,"
said William M. Flynn, NYSERDA President. "We are proud to
have a New York company developing this technology locally, and
pleased to use New York State facilities to support this demonstration
effort."
Participating state agencies in this program include NYSDEC, the
State University of New York at Albany, New York State Department
of Transportation, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and
Historic Preservation, New York State Department of Corrections, and
the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.

of evolving designs of fuel cell systems in both the laboratory
and field has significantly accelerated Plug Power's ability to

Plug Power designs and develops on-site electric power generation
systems utilizing proton exchange membrane fuel cells for stationary
applications. The Latham, N.Y.-based Company was founded in 1997,
as a joint venture of DTE Energy Company and Mechanical Technology
Incorporated.
NYSERDA is a public-benefit corporation established by the State
Legislature in 1975 to address the State energy and environmental
challenges in ways that also benefit the economy. NYSERDA helps New
York State businesses develop energy and environmental products, commercializing
the type of high-value-added products that create jobs and give New
York State businesses a real chance to compete in the expanding global
marketplace.
