Albany, NY The New York State Energy Research and Development
Authority (NYSERDA) awarded $25,000 to the Churchville Chili Central
School District to install advanced meters that will be used to monitor
electricity consumption. The school district applied for funding to
install web-enabled advanced monitoring equipment under NYSERDA's
Institutional Energy Performance Contract Assistance Program. NYSERDA
provided the full $25,000 for the purchase of the meters, which will
help the school district pay for the $34,000 project. With this technology,
Churchville Chili Central School District will be able to determine
when and where energy is being used, which is essential to reduce
energy consumption and identify peak demand periods.
"Energy bills are a major strain for New York's businesses
and municipalities," NYSERDA President William M. Flynn said.
"A common objective of NYSERDA and Governor Pataki is to improve
the economics of the State through energy savings. We encourage
other school districts like Churchville Chili to take part in the
programs NYSERDA has to offer."
The latest in energy management technology, web-enabled advanced
monitoring allows for energy profiling, billing, and rate analysis.
Customers are able to analyze the information from the meters by logging
into an assigned website on the Internet.
"The energy management system being installed at Churchville
Chili School District will be of great benefit not only to the district,
which will be able to monitor and evaluate its electricity use,
but also to neighboring districts, businesses and municipalities
which can learn how to increase their own energy efficiency based
on Churchville Chili's findings," said Senator George D. Maziarz.
"I commend NYSERDA for their generous assistance in this most
worthy project."
By strategically placing a number of meters throughout a facility,
one can compare daily energy use. The information is then used to
assess the energy demand on a weekly and monthly basis with the expectations
that the data will then be used to help decrease future energy consumption.
"This is yet another example of the real world steps that
must be taken to achieve savings on energy bills," said Assemblyman
Charles Nesbitt. "I congratulate Churchville Chili and thank
Governor Pataki and NYSERDA for helping local taxpayers reduce energy
expenses."
Funding for this project comes from NYSERDA's New York Energy $martSM program, which is designed to lower electricity costs by encouraging
energy efficiency as the State's electric utilities move to competition.
The programs are available to all electric distribution customers
(residential, commercial, institutional and industrial) of Central
Hudson, Con Edison, NYSEG, Niagara Mohawk, Orange and Rockland, and
Rochester Gas and Electric.
All New York Energy $martSM programs are funded by a System Benefits Charge (SBC) paid by electric
distribution customers of participating utilities. NYSERDA, a public
benefit corporation established by law in 1975, administers SBC funds
and programs under an agreement with the Public Service Commission.
