The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and the Center for Economic Growth (CEG), announced today that they had signed a Memorandum of Understanding in which CEG would, through its Business Accelerator program, provide business related mentoring and counseling services to start-up and emerging technology firms that locate at the Saratoga Technology + Energy Park (STEP) in the Town of Malta, Saratoga County, New York.

NYSERDA President and CEO Paul D. Tonko said, "We are looking forward to partnering with CEG. Such cooperation is of prime importance in ensuring that STEP tenants have access to CEG's suite of highly-regarded business mentoring and counseling services, including sales and marketing, governance, intellectual property, and other business issues, directly on-site at STEP."

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was entered into between the CEG and NYSERDA, providing CEG's business and technology support services to NYSERDA's STEP. The purpose of the MOU is to set forth and expand the collaboration of the two organizations relating to business development and job creation within environmental technology and clean-energy related business in the Capital Region at STEP.

"The Center for Economic Growth is excited to enter into this agreement with NYSERDA as part of our Business Accelerator program to help more regional technology start-ups evolve from great technical concepts to successful technology companies," said CEG President and CEO F. Michael Tucker. "With the STEP housing many of the region's emerging environmental and clean-energy companies, this is a natural collaboration between our two organizations."

CEG offers a suite of programs designed to: direct and accelerate the growth of technology and manufacturing companies; facilitate access to funding; offer business and technology acceleration support to companies ready, willing and able to grow; provide in-depth business development support to companies seeking to penetrate the energy and environmental sectors, Homeland Security, National Security and Defense markets; and offer technical services to assist companies in establishing or optimizing their operations.

NYSERDA will be responsible for the selection of STEP tenants, STEP facilities, and will provide supporting clean-energy and environmental technology industry connections. NYSERDA will also manage the leases with STEP developers, maintain the physical infrastructure and physical services, such as roadways, building infrastructure, water, phone and electric access, and will collect the fees for providing such services. In addition, NYSERDA will assist CEG in leveraging the NYSERDA network of technical and industry expertise on behalf of participants, including state and federal energy and technology laboratories, as well as support in connecting to energy and technology related academic, government and industry stakeholders.

NYSERDA will also provide CEG with an office space in which to hold office hours and meet with STEP tenants and potential tenant companies.

CEG and NYSERDA have made the following agreements:

•  The parties agree that they will perform the separate duties and responsibilities in a fully collaborative and supportive manner.

•  The parties will meet regularly to update the joint plans and activities for meeting the objectives of the MOU, and to approve an annual plan of action.

•  The parties will explore additional partnering opportunities as appropriate to support energy and technology-related technology transfer and business development, possibly including collaborations with federal laboratories and regional academic and corporate research centers.

NYSERDA was established by law in 1975 as a public benefit corporation. Its mission is to use innovation and technology to solve some of New York 's most difficult energy and environmental problems in ways that improve the State's economy. STEP is a special destination for clean-energy and environmental technology companies in the heart of New York 's Tech Valley . It is a fully-integrated knowledge community that includes programs, services, partnerships, and amenities to support the success of companies and their employees.

CEG is a regional economic and business development organization dedicated to attracting high-tech talent and companies, and to providing innovation services to bolster local businesses in New York State 's Capital Region and Tech Valley . It is a business-driven, member-supported not-for-profit corporation established in 1988 to promote the economic growth of New York 's Capital Region. CEG and the Capital Region Technology Development Council merged in October of 1993, forming a single economic development organization dedicated to business attraction, expansion, and retention initiatives. CEG's mission is to promote and market New York 's Capital Region as a prime business location and to provide management and technical assistance to existing businesses.
