Corning Incorporated Receives Incentive for Building Energy-Efficient Facility
Corning, N.Y. -- Under programs sponsored by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Corning Incorporated is implementing several energy-efficiency measures in its newly constructed diesel manufacturing facility in Erwin, N.Y. Corning anticipates that the measures will result in a reduction of electrical energy consumption of approximately 905,000 kWh per year, or a savings of $38,000 annually.
Corning qualified for $266,240 in financial incentives toward the building's energy-efficiency measures as part of the NYSERDA program. Incentives were tied to the installation of nine separate measures including HVAC upgrades and the installation of low-E argon filled windows.
"It's encouraging to see an international company like Corning Incorporated utilize the New York Energy $martSM New Construction Program to reduce the cost of energy-efficient upgrades at their new facility," said President of NYSERDA, Peter R. Smith. "NYSERDA is pleased to provide the incentive to Corning to help offset many expenses associated with the implementation of the energy-efficiency measures."
"By collaborating with NYSERDA, we were able to work with local contractors to design and build an affordable, energy efficient facility," said Tom Hinman, vice president and general manager of Corning Diesel Technologies. "NYSERDA provided us with the financial and technical incentive to improve the building's energy efficiency, comfort and design. Energy savings is a welcome added component to the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility we've built in Erwin - a plant that is keeping good jobs in New York State."
The New Construction Program can offset the majority of initial costs associated with the selection and installation of qualifying energy efficiency measures. It also provides opportunities to implement energy efficiency and load management improvements in building envelopes and major systems (e.g., HVAC, lighting, controls, and building envelope) at the time of new construction or substantial renovation.
As administrator of the New York Energy $martSM Program, NYSERDA provides financial incentives and technical assistance to eligible building owners and leaseholders to improve the energy efficiency of new and renovated buildings. NYSERDA's New Construction Program is designed to accelerate the incorporation of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources in the design, construction, and operation of commercial, industrial, institutional, and multifamily structures. The goal of the program is to produce a permanent improvement in standard design practice among building designers and owners.
NYSERDA is a public benefit corporation established by law in 1975. It identifies and promotes solutions to New York State's energy challenges in ways that achieve energy efficiency while benefiting the state's economy and environment. It administers the New York Energy $martSM Program that benefits all ratepayers of the investor owned electric companies across the state. The programs are available to all electric distribution customers (residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial) of Central Hudson, Con Edison, NYSEG, Niagara Mohawk, Orange and Rockland, and Rochester Gas and Electric.
