NYSERDA Small Commercial Lighting Competition Prizes Awarded to Three Companies
Albany, NY , December 13, 2004 - The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced that Glens Falls Electric Supply Company, Inc., of Queensbury, American Energy Care, Inc., of Albany, and Myriad Construction of Syracuse, are the winners in the New York Energy $martSM Small Commercial Lighting Program (SCLP) Quarterly Installation Competition for the third quarter of 2004. The award recognizes those participating companies (called Allies) that are the most active in supplying or installing projects during the previous quarter. The new lighting systems are providing better lit spaces for employees and customers, while saving New York small businesses thousands of dollars in energy and maintenance costs.
"These awards are evidence that economic development and energy-efficiency go hand-in-hand in New York State, and that NYSERDA is committed to both of these objectives," said NYSERDA President Peter R. Smith. "Lighting practitioners and small companies have come to recognize that effective, energy-efficient lighting not only reduces operating costs but can increase sales and productivity."
NYSERDA made the following five Installation Competition awards for the 3 rd Quarter of 2004:
- American Energy Care, of Albany received two $1,000 awards for most qualifying projects and largest square footage of projects completed in the Small Commercial Lighting Program by a small contractor. American Energy Care completed five projects with over 95,000 square feet, and is a past winner of both of these awards.
- Myriad Construction of Syracuse received two $1,000 awards for the most qualifying projects completed by a large contractor and largest square footage of products. Myriad completed five projects with over 66,000 square feet.
- The $1,000 award for most qualifying projects supplied in the Small Commercial Lighting Program by a small supplier/distributor went to Glens Falls Electric Supply Company, Inc., of Queensbury, with 5 projects completed in the quarter.
"Effective, energy-efficient lighting has made a big impact on and created substantial savings for our private and public sector clients," says Jamie Thompson, President of American Energy Care, an Albany based energy efficiency services and lighting contractor firm. "We appreciate NYSERDA's recognition of our efforts in promoting energy efficiency."
Dan Underwood, Sales Manager, of Glens Falls Electric Supply Company, Inc., a Queensbury electrical distributor, agrees. "Our clients are finding that better lighting doesn't cost more in the long run - it saves! They are very pleased when they see the results and when they see the reduction in their electric bills."
Scott Jaworski of Myriad Construction in Syracuse adds his perspective, "Effective, energy-efficient lighting systems exceed our clients' expectations. Our participation in this NYSERDA program has made a real difference in how our lighting projects are designed and installed."
The New York Energy $martSM Small Commercial Lighting Program, which is open to lighting distributors, contractors, designers, and manufacturers, promotes effective, energy-efficient lighting products and designs for commercial spaces between 1,000 and 25,000 square feet. The program is changing the way the lighting market designs and manufactures lighting systems by providing businesses the option of improved lighting systems that are designed to reduce energy usage, save the customer money on electric bills, and improve the lighting for employees and customers. To date, over 2 million square feet of small commercial and institutional building spaces in New York State have been upgraded to effective, energy-efficient lighting through this program.
Funding for the awards comes from the New York Energy $martSM program which is designed to lower electricity costs by encouraging energy efficiency. Programs are available to electric distribution consumers of Central Hudson Gas and Electric, Consolidated Edison, NYSEG, Niagara Mohawk, Orange and Rockland Utilities, and Rochester Gas and Electric, and to the businesses that sell energy-efficient equipment and services to those customers. All New York Energy $martSM programs are funded by a System Benefits Charge (SBC) paid by customers of these utilities.
