Syracuse, NY -- To promote new energy technologies, Central New York Energy $martSM Communities, an initiative of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), is proud to be a sponsor of the Milton Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology - 24th Annual Greater Syracuse Scholastic Science Fair (GSSSF).
More than 450 middle and high school students from Central New York and judges from area colleges, industries, and government agencies are expected to participate. This science fair is the premier science event for Central New York and is regionally affiliated with Intel's International Science and Engineering Fair and the New York Science Congress. Two winners from the GSSSF may go on to compete at the Intel International Competition in Portland, Oregon on May 9 - 15, 2004.
"NYSERDA is pleased to support this regional competition and promote research in the field of energy and energy efficiency. We need to invest in energy education as well as the scientists of tomorrow if we are going to succeed in solving our nations most challenging energy problems," said Peter Smith, acting president of NYSERDA. "NYSERDA feels this competition will help stimulate interest in science research, and for some of these students, this may possibly lead them to choose an energy-related career path. We are excited to tap into the creative minds of New York State students and look forward to seeing what projects are entered."
The GSSSF is scheduled for March 21, 2004 at the Syracuse Convention Center at the OnCenter. For more information on the contest rules please call (315) 425-9068.
