NYSERDA, NYPA AND MUNICIPALITES HOST ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SEMINAR
Businesses Can Cut Operating Costs and Protect the Environment With $mart Energy Choices

April 6, 2004 White Plains, New York - The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), New York Power Authority (NYPA), United States Department of Energy's Rebuild America Program, and Mid-Hudson Energy $mart Communities will join with experts in the energy efficiency and renewable energy industry to sponsor a free seminar on how to finance, construct, and renovate a building to reduce energy bills.

The seminar, "Energy & Environmental Technologies To Boost Your Business Today," is intended for businesses and commercial building owners. It will be held at NYPA, 123 Main Street, White Plains, on June 8, 2004 from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

The seminar will focus on the financial and environmental benefits of improving the energy efficiency of a building. Case studies will show how to lower energy bills through a variety of means including better insulation levels, high-performance windows, energy-efficient lighting and appliances, improved duct systems, and high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment, including state-of-the-art geothermal and cogeneration systems appropriate for even small to mid-sized businesses. The seminar will also provide information on alternative energy sources for powering a building.

Representatives from NYSERDA's Mid-Hudson Energy $mart Communities program will present information on NYSERDA's technical and financial assistance programs that are available to help with the renovation or construction of energy-efficient buildings. A tour of NYPA headquarters, a state-of-the-art energy-efficient building, will also be offered to seminar participants.

"The New York Power Authority is delighted to host this seminar as part of our continuing efforts to help meet Governor Pataki's ambitious goals for saving energy and protecting the environment," NYPA President and Chief Executive Officer Eugene W. Zeltmann said. "We hope the highly successful energy-efficiency program we've completed in our White Plains building will serve as a valuable model to those attending this event."

"Governor Pataki has made it a priority for State government to partner with local businesses and communities to address energy, economic, and environmental issues," said Peter R. Smith, president of NYSERDA. "The financial and technical assistance NYSERDA provides saves building owners millions of dollars in annual costs."

To register for the seminar, contact Mid-Hudson Energy $mart Communities at (845) 331-2238. Pre-registration is required by June 4. There is no fee to attend and a complimentary continental breakfast and lunch will be served. Architects can earn Continuing Education Units for this event.

Other key sponsors include the Town of Greenburgh, the City of New Rochelle, the Environmental Business Association of New York (EBA/NYS), The Westchester Business Journal and the Pace Energy Project.

Mid-Hudson Energy $mart Communities is a New York Energy $martSM program co-funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's Rebuild America program. Mid-Hudson Energy $mart Communities helps meet the energy resource challenges facing commercial and residential building owners through demonstration projects, outreach programs, and by matching energy-related projects with NYSERDA resources.

All New York Energy $martSM programs are funded by a System Benefits Charge (SBC) paid by electric distribution customers of participating utilities. NYSERDA, a public benefit corporation established by law in 1975, administers SBC funds and programs under an agreement with the Public Service Commission.
