Project Manager, T&D and Exploratory Research
Albany Office
NYSERDA seeks a highly motivated technical professional to manage a broad array of technology-based projects. The successful individual must be willing to travel 25% of the time to meet with Contractors on an ongoing basis in order to develop/maintain close professional relationships with each organization. The position requires strong interpersonal skills and an ability to identify strategic partnerships between NYS companies, universities and government in order to maximize in-state economic development opportunities. This position interacts on a regular basis with outside Contractors (mixture of public and privately held companies), government organizations (NYSDPS, NYSDEC), trade associations, universities, and professional technical societies.
The successful individual will assume initial responsibility for managing a diverse set of product development and technology demonstration projects focused on the electric power sector. Over time, the list of projects will change and the financial responsibility will likely increase.
The Project Manager’s primary responsibilities will be to:
- Actively manage a broad range of technical projects with a clear focus on maximizing economic development. Successful project implementation may require assisting companies with securing venture capital funds, identifying partnership opportunities with other NYS companies, providing technical guidance on how to improve product development testing, and coordinating with government agencies to proactively address potential regulatory roadblocks to technology adoption/commercialization.
- Develop future solicitations that provide public funding in support of smart grid technologies (utility scale energy storage, distributed generation, advanced sensors and communication systems, etc.) to improve the performance of the electric power supply and delivery system in NYS. Close coordination with the NYISO and the electric utilities is required.
- Serve as a technical reviewer for both NYSERDA and the DOE to evaluate and assess the potential viability of commercial technologies. The position requires a willingness to review proposals/projects across multiple NYSERDA departments in R&D, EES and EA.
- Prepare periodic technology update reports to inform public officials about the status of advanced technologies. These reports must be prepared in a concise fashion and convey technical information in simple form for non-technical readers. Technical papers/reports should be submitted for strategic publication in key venues.
- Identify opportunities to improve/enhance program delivery. Gather external input from key stakeholders to assess the performance of existing programs. Proactively engage states with similar programs/mandates and determine comparative stature.
Required minimum qualifications an individual must possess include:
- 3 years of experience managing a broad array of technology-based projects
- Strong interpersonal skills and a keen technical insight required to identify opportunities
- Strong technical writing skills to create solicitations with an understanding of market demands in mind
- Detailed understanding of technology commercialization hurdles is essential
- An ability to objectively and accurately characterize the level of risk regarding NYSERDA’s public investment is critically important
- A commitment to continuous program improvement is critical
Minimum educational requirements an individual must possess include:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Environmental, Civil, or a related degree or
- An unrelated Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience as described above

Director of Clean Energy Research and Market Development

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) seeks a Director to lead the Clean Energy Research and Market Development program. The objective of the multifaceted research program is to accelerate the development and commercial introduction of emerging clean energy technologies in New York State and support research to better understand and mitigate the environmental effects of energy production. The program portfolio includes a range of technology and business development initiatives in wind, solar, biomass, energy storage, advanced transportation technology, and environmental pollution control.
The Director must have the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and define emerging energy and environmental technologies and issues. The Director must have experience developing and leading technical teams. The Director must have the ability to develop well-coordinated programs that will help grow the clean energy economy in New York State and help the State solve difficult energy challenges by promoting innovation and beneficial new ideas, technologies, and business strategies.
The Director must possess strong communication and management skills necessary to supervise, lead, and provide continued development of professional staff for approximately a 35-person department comprised of technical and administrative personnel. The Director will have budgetary responsibilities for an $800-million program portfolio.
The Director must interact and manage relationships with key stakeholders and build external support for NYSERDA’s programs. This individual must be able to work effectively with a range of groups including businesses, universities, the financial/investment community, utilities, national laboratories, public interest groups, and state and federal agencies. The Director will participate in working groups with state, regional and national organizations and agencies to influence agendas that support NYSERDA’s programs and mission.
The Director position is part of the Senior Management Team and will be a key player in helping to set priorities and operational plans for all of NYSERDA. The Director will play a critical role in helping NYSERDA achieve its mission of advancing innovative energy solutions in ways that improve New York’s economy and environment. The Director will report to the Vice President for Technology and Strategic Planning.
Individuals must possess a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, architecture, or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred. Individuals must also have a minimum of ten years of relevant technical experience and five years of managerial experience.
Salary

Marketing Project Manager

NYSERDA seeks an experienced Marketing professional to take a leadership role, working with Program Area staff, in developing and executing comprehensive and integrated targeted Marketing and Outreach plans for Green Jobs-Green NY.
The individual’s primary responsibilities will be to:
- Take a leadership role in developing, communicating and implementing an integrated Marketing and Outreach Plan to support the Green Jobs-Green NY program
- Develop strategies, messaging and tactical implementation plans to align NYSERDA’s Green Jobs-Green NY activity with NYSERDA’s Residential, Small Business Programs and other programs as appropriate
- Evaluate research, market conditions, customer and target market data, and partnership opportunities to develop measurable, cost effective recommendations
- Apply knowledge of multiple media vehicles including print, broadcast, direct marketing, and interactive/online marketing to most effectively reach defined audience
- As part of the Outreach Working Group, take a leadership role in the competitive selection and deployment of Community-based Outreach Organizations
- Identify and make content development recommendations to effectively leverage NYSERDA.org
- Actively identify and leverage opportunities to leverage Marketing initiatives across NYSERDA’s programs and audiences
- Manage external creative resources and provide direction to internal creative staff on business strategies, priorities and work plans
- Build relationships with Program Area staff, participate in solicitation preparation and planning meetings
- Work within NYSERDA “branding” guidelines to develop promotional and toolkit materials
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned
Required minimum qualifications an individual must possess include:
- Eight years of experience developing and implementing strategic marketing plans utilizing multi-media vehicles along with strategic marketing planning and tactical implementation skills including business and consumer audiences
- Excellent communications skills including business writing ability as well as being skilled in bringing together multiple constituents at various levels to reach consensus
- Demonstrated project management of large and multi-faceted projects with the proven ability to present to small groups and larger audiences
Minimum educational requirements an individual must possess include:

PEOPLESOFT FUNCTIONAL ANALYST

NYSERDA seeks a Functional Analyst to be a part of a team responsible for PeopleSoft Financials Enterprise Suite 9.0, implemented in April 2009, including the following modules: Strategic Sourcing, Supplier Contract Management, Purchasing, Project Costing, Customer Contracts, Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Asset Management, General Ledger and Commitment Control. The position will report to the Director of Contract Management and will supervise an assistant analyst.
The Functional Analyst’s primary responsibilities will be to:
- Promptly troubleshoot issues raised by the functional end users and clearly communicate solutions
- Develop technical specification documents and test plans for enhancements and modifications requested by end users
- Design and develop simple queries to meet user report needs
- Coordinate technical and functional activities associated with upgrades, patches and fixes
- Assist with system and integration testing for upgrades, patches and fixes
- Participate in the development and implementation of training programs
- Administer Workflow
Required minimum qualifications an individual must possess include:
- US citizenship or otherwise eligible to work in U.S. NYSERDA does not sponsor applicants for work visas.
- Minimum of 3 years experience providing responsibilities described above for at least one or more of the PeopleSoft Financials product line modules described above - preferably PeopleSoft Purchasing.
- Excellent business/system process aptitude including requirements gathering and analysis skills, and problem solving skills including problem identification, interpretation and resolution.
- Excellent communication skills including written, presentation, listening, interpersonal and team building.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of end users at both a functional and technical level.
- Query development skills; experience with report development (e.g. N-Vision) preferred
- Project management, task prioritization and analytical skills

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, Management, or a related degree
